about the experimental project space in Montreux

murmurcontemporary

murmurcontemporary is a non-traditional project space in Montreux, that transcends the boundaries of traditional art exhibition by immersing visitors in the dynamic realm of video art installations and site-specific works. murmurcontemporary serves as a vibrant community for artists to push the boundaries of visual expression and engage audiences in immersive experiences.
The site-specific installations serve as a canvas for artists to respond to and interact with the environment, creating a dialogue between the art, the space, and the community.

_________________________

murmurcontemporary name comes from the active interest in the experimentation, the exploration of the murmuration between sound and image, of the experimental artist and founder Ruxandra Mitache.
She use sometimes the term abstract colours, to inspire the experimental approach of the art that she create and want to promote.

murmurcontemporary is her studio, and also an experimental project space from Montreux, located very close to the central station, and very close to a well known alkaline spring from the town. The space is 60 m2, and it’s like a capsule, with very good acoustics and resonance of the sound and a good place for site specific installations and experimental video and sound projections.

A journey through fiction and reality, merging international cinematic expressions with local artists' site-specific works.
"Melting Walls" volume one contains a selection of visionary moving image works exploring the fluid metaphor, trying to transcend linguistic and cultural boundaries. From Tokyo's streets to the hidden tunnels of US, these cinematic narratives paint diverse stories of our interconnected world. The work of the artist collective Protoplast is blending cultural elements with the environment illuminated by a mise-en-scène projection.
These installations serve as a metaphorical bridge, symbolising the dissolution of barriers and inviting reflection on identity, connection, and shared humanity in a fluid world.

The concept of melting walls series of exhibitions, comes from the idea to open up
opportunities to present and engage diverse audiences into an anthropologic perspective for a creative experimental walk.

melting walls will be a series of experimental video installations, exhibitions that will include a site specific artwork made by invited artists, and will be accompanied by experimental projections made from collected images, videos & sounds received from different spaces around the world.

Listening, seeing the juxtapositions of different collected forms of audio-visual information, in my opinion will open up opportunities to present collective memories in a structural - experimental way.

Application:

For who would like to participate, I recommend to collect if possible, sounds and (images - videos 16:9) diverse, contrasted, fragmented - repetitive elements (recreative or noisy) from their environments and try to capture more than 4 repetitive elements, like: sunrises, sunsets, trees, diverse objects, house numbers, eyes, ears, etc...

To apply, send your audio and video files to:
murmurcontemporary@gmail.com

OPEN CALL - Deadline 29 February 202
All the selected materials will be credited.

where is your safe space?
2 - 5 November 2023

The moving-image exhibition in Montreux aims to open a filmic dialogue about existential concepts, perceptual realities and human affects in relation to space - a space close to the heart, a safe space.
Discovered or hidden rhythms, leitmotifs, memories, fluid and transparent atmospheres, permeate vibrant visions, in the breath of the silent whispers of our eyes, finding inner lyrics, sprung from textured thoughts, murmurs, reflections of the mind, revealed in short or long exposures of time.
A space, a safe space is like a vivid organism, where we invoke creative, protective sensations, personal values, and the luminosity around us and within us, opening up to symbolic, ritualised gardens, metaphors for the e/motions of specific ambients.
